October 1 2022 WL observations and GONG weekly rotation.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

My session time was from 15:30 until 16:03 UTC. The skies are mostly clouded by the remains of the remnants of Hurricane Ian which passed through last night with windy rainy weather. Poor seeing. The temperature is 56F ( 13.3C ). Windy. Most of the viewing was done through high thin clouds between lower fast moving cumulus-type clouds.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 31x. ( WL )
I can see six active regions on the continuum photosphere. Four are in the northern hemisphere with all bearing labels. Two are seen in the southern hemisphere with one bearing a number label.

The new AR13112 is seen very near the NE limb I can see three spots in the group. I can see evidence of penumbrae associated with them even at this low magnification. Faculae can be seen around them as well. AR13111 in the NE quadrant is easily seen as a single spot. At times of better seeing I can see the umbra and penumbra of the spot. The now separately labeled AR13113 in the NW quadrant is seen as three spots. I can hint a small number of pores here during moments of better seeing as I can also make out the umbra and penumbra of it's leading spot. Just to it's west I can see AR13110. Here I see an easy structured spot that shows an E-W elongated umbra within an ovalish penumbra. Five large dark pores can be seen just NW of the spot.

AR13107 can be seen as a single large pore surrounded by faculae near the limb. This system is near the point of death. I cannot see AR13105 with it being right at/on the limb. It has probably died back a lot too nor Can I see AR13106. I can see a small spot with a large pore to it's east. These are in the SE quadrant.

No hint of granulation is seen today. Poor seeing and too many intervening clouds.

James

Cool Mark! You had a visual session. You got clouded out on the ISS transit, right?

Yeah, some nice views prior to when the transit would have occured, clouded a couple of minutes before the transit, cleared a couple of minutes afterwards...

Hi James: thank you for the report. Here also clouded from Ian’s remains. No imaging for now, maybe towards end of the week.
