Images and a really short animation 10/2/2022

Post by rigel123 »

With a little help and breaking the mount into pieces I was able to set up my rig with no trouble and it will stay set up all week if the weather prediction is correct! Clouds scuttled most attempts at any animations (really wanted to get some of the floating proms!) but I did catch 15 minutes of AR3112 and a little activity on the NE limb (image rotated 90 degrees for viewing) before they totally blocked the sky. Maybe more this afternoon if the sun doesn't go behind my roof! Adding some additional images from a bit later after the clouds broke up a little. That floating prom on the Western Limb would have made a great animation but alas, it wasn't going to be!!

All of these are really nice, Warren. The dark inverted discs with light filaments are my favorites. The 3D effect of those filaments are striking!!

Hi, Warren

Those limb shots are very dramatic.

I don't know if you're doing this already but putting a large bbq cover over your rig will offer great weather protection. I've had 2 of my mounts
under tethered covers down to the tips of the tripod since the spring of this year with no problems including in some very heavy rain. I covered the electronics with bags secured by clothes pins and a white waste container to cap it off. The optics come indoors since I change scopes so often. It all comes indoors over winter and unless there is something dramatic to record it all stays there.

Lou

My mount stays outside 24/7 365 days a year under a bbq cover with no problems. Bit of rusting on exposed steel parts but it is over 15 years old. My optics live inside though.

Thanks Lou and Eric! I do keep the mount out under a Telegizmo if I don’t see any rain for a number of days. Just don’t have the guts to leave out $$$ worth of equipment if I think there might be a significant rain!
