October 4 2022 Imaging attempt :-(

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Today around 15:00 UTC I sat the SMII90 and C102 up for a bit of imaging on my back deck. It was a short time full of issues. Horrible seeing, lack of time for the Sun went behind trees before I got to everything, some clouds and tuning issues. Trying to rush through the session before losing the Sun to the trees and the seeing was the worst. All future sessions will take place at another location in the yard that has a longer period of sunlight. Winter is coming, that's for sure!! The Sun is MUCH lower than it was. The temperature was 62F ( 16.6C )

So frustrating. I also need to learn to stack in ASTRO IIDC. Stacking helps get by the seeing a bit. I never got to white light.

I'll post an earlier KSO Ha image to show where everything is on the disc.

Maybe next time....

James

Once we try it , the reality becomes more easily apparent.

Best of luck James...Plenty of missions Ahead.

Glad you were able to get the bigger scopes out James! You got some good results for the season, it gets harder as we head towards winter.

Whichever way you most enjoy the sun is the path you should follow! Nice effort!

Thanks for your sympathy and support everyone. I certainly don’t see imaging replacing visual for me but I would like to get good enough to show what is clearly there. It’s certainly not easy and my visually oriented equipment ( mounts, etc ) doesn’t help either. But I don’t give up easily and I have done a few decent ones. And yes Alexandra I would like to get some clear sharp granulation shots!!

Nice work, James. Your second image is more on band and shows the angry new active region really well.

FYI, my first images were worse than yours :)

Hi James - we have all had sessions like that - imaging the sun is like fishing - enjoy the process & occasionally the outcome.

Maurits,
I already miss summer with it’s long days, high sun and surprisingly better seeing despite the heat. It won’t be long I will be dressing in heavy clothes to observe.

Stu,
Yeah the second one is more on band but fuzzy. The seeing was so bad focusing was even difficult.

Matt,
True that! And I love to fish! 🎣

James:
Well you are doing what you like, the importance is to follow the Sun in the way one wants.
Thanks for your interesting reports.
Best regards.
Eric.
