Sun FD 6th Oct 2022 - GONG/NAFE process

Post by Radon86 »

Hi All,

As it has been cloudy and rainy for a few days, and the sun is getting lower in the sky, I just took an hour to try out NAFE on today's GONG image from Learmonth, Australia at 07:21 hours UT from gong.nso.edu.

This is just a simple NAFE process, no sharpening or other processing (other than hiding noise). This is the 1st attempt using NAFE: parameter 0.15, and gamma 1. No ImPPG or stacking involved!

Hope you like it !

Hi Franco,

NAFE is a software analyser for SDO AIA images. It seems to work to an extent for H-alpha. AZAstroguy on youtube demonstrated it in a recent tutorial. You can download NAFE. It works on 16 bit .tiff files which are in RGB, so you may need to convert 8 bit or mono images first. I think it is interesting.

I've had a play round with Nafe before, presonally i'm not a fan I think it overcooks images.

It has an unusual dotty appearance at close quarters but looks fine at a distance :)

It’s Windows only probably….

I’ll try it out on the Slooh Ha images. They are rather noisy.

Hi,
I agree it is designed for AIA.
I see a lot of noise so that needs more
attention.
Still I find it interesting and a quick type
of process.

Magnus,
Thanks for bringing this tool to our attention. I use the SDO data a lot!
