October 6 2022 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

My session time was from 14:36 until 15:30 UTC. The skies were clear but the seeing is still well below average. Lately I have been plagued with well below average to poor seeing. :-( The temperature is 60F ( 15.5C ).

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
I can see eight active regions in the Ha chromosphere today. Five in the northern hemisphere with three showing labels on the KSO images. Three regions are visible in the southern hemisphere with the KSO images showing two with labels.

In the NE quadrant the AR13112-AR13116 complex easily shows it's scattered plage and is surrounded by filaments on all sides. A thin filament is seen in AR13116 itself. Two spots can be seen in AR13112. I can see three roundish plages well to the SE of this big complex. AR13111 can be seen in the NW quadrant by it's single spot. A small difficult plage is seen just SE of it. It's probably associated with AR13111 but that I am unsure of.

AR13115 and AR13117 are seen as plages in the SW quadrant. Easy filaments lie south of them. I see no plages in the SE quadrant but I do see 4 filaments there.

Though I did not spend a lot of time on prominences I did see a sizeable one on the SE limb that has a vertical gap within it. North of it lies what appears to be a tiny detached prom. Two others were noted on the SW limb and I noticed one of these to be a filaprom. Slooh Teide showed two were filaproms on the SW limb.

The mottles are visible as always but are a bit soft by the seeing.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x, 41.5x and 50x ( WL )
I can see seven spot-bearing regions on the WL photosphere today. Five of these are in the northern hemisphere and KSO shows three with numbers. Two additional faculae are seen in the NE quad. Two number labeled regions are seen in the SW quadrant. In addition to these a low contrast facula is seen near the SW limb and a larger somewhat easier patch of faculae is seen near the SE limb. After the main morning session had concluded I went out for another look in white light at 17:25UT. The seeing had improved significantly to fair/average! The temperature had climbed just a little to 62F. The better seeing certainly gave me a clearer view!!

The mighty AR13112-13116 complex in the NE quadrant looks nice today. It still maintains a rough wishbone shape with the large spot of AR13112 being at the fork of the wishbone. This spot shows umbra-penumbra form and has an irregular shaped umbra. West of it at the CLM lies a single spot. The northern tine of the wishbone is the spot group of AR13116. During the later session I can see two of these spots have penumbrae and the smaller spots lie between them. The southern tine of the wishbone which belongs to AR1311 has numerous smaller spots and pores and I can see at least one spot with a penumbra. I see another that looks to be penumbra only, that is without an umbra! The aforementioned spot west of the large central spot of AR13112 looks like it may have a bit of a penumbra too. Well east of AR13112 lies a lone pore. East of it I pick up a small facula. Well SE I pick up a double pore within a facula. Earlier KSO WL imagery picked up a third area with a small pore here. I did not see it during the earlier session and looked for it during the later view. I should have been able to see it but I saw only a faint patch of faculae there. The pore may have disappeared. AR13111 in the NW quadrant appears as a single structured spot.

AR13115 in the SW quadrant shows itself as 4 small spots with the larger one in it's NW corner. AR13117 reveals itself by a small lone spot. A low contrast facula is seen nearer the SW limb. I see a patch of faculae near the SE limb.

The fine granulation was difficult to see in the main part of the session but two hours later was much easier to see!

Carpe Lumen!!

James
