Nice ISS Pass with compartment details and animation - Sunlit
Hi all,
I had an excellent pass of the ISS in the early evening two days ago.
The tracking was continuous and almost perfect, but the seeing did not help. Nevertheless, I think these are the best and more detailed captures I had so far, together with the animation I made from the processed captures.

Unbelievable !
How did you track such a fast object like the ISS with a C14 telescope ? I even find it hard to track it with mine own 2 eyes sometimes !!!

Re: Nice ISS Pass with compartment details and animation - Sunlit
Thank you all for your kind comments! :-)
Please believe me, this image which is my best after almost two years of efforts and six months with the C14, is horrible if you compare it with a truly talented Israeli Astrophotographer, whose photos of the ISS I saw for the first time two days ago. Crystal clear in really High Definition! Jaw dropping.
I realy want to know more about his revolutionary techniques.
However, there is a much better method: try to track it with your mount. There is an amazing dedicated software (SkyTrack) from a very kind person, that can track satellites. Another kind fellow here in solarchat, let me know about it half a year ago. With a smaller aperture, everything goes quite easily and smoothly. With the C14 it is much more difficult and needs "training" and ideas (e.g. use a gamepad and perhaps a laser beam) to succeed to bring the ISS in your frame and keep it there, while tracking it. I succeeded to do so just two weeks ago. Before I had only short passes from my sensor's frame. It took quite some trials and errors... ;-)
Now that I have the technique, I just wait for the next passes hoping that one them will be during good seeing to get better results.
Best wishes,
Alexandros

Hi Magnus. Initially, I was tracking the ISS manually, including with the C14. Unbelievable? I thought the same until I tried... I just had to make it pass from the center of the finder as many times as I could during its passage. This is a successful method because at 160 FPS, you get some tens of frames each time, enough to stack them and get an acceptable image.

Alexandros,
Thank you for your honesty! I am going to
try ISS imaging at various focal lengths,
perhaps using dSLR ( too low focal length) and
Dobsonians.
I will take a look at SkyTrack.
I remember reading that the astrophysics
mount can track very fast, but I think
that would be a mistake and too costly
to use that mount for such a task!
