Full-disk H-alpha SHG images from Oct 6 and 8 -- side by side

Post by thesmiths »

I put together a mosaic of SHG H-alpha images from Oct 6 and 8. The conditions were similar and the quality was high in both cases. The Sun's surface features were ideally suited to SHG imaging on both days (lots of filaments).

Click on the image to see at higher resolution, or open it in a new tab for full resolution.

See viewtopic.php?t=38332 and viewtopic.php?t=38362 for the observation parameters.

It's worth mentioning that our SHG scans in DEC and the slit is quite accurately aligned parallel to the RA axis of the mount. It's quite obvious from looking at these two images how tilted the Sun's axis is this time of year (in fact, it's close to being maximum now, according to the Tilting Sun app).

It is certainly favouring the north :hamster: there are so many filaments and these really contrast well in the SHG images :bow :hamster:
