Valery

Post by ffellah »

Hello all: Valery has asked me to convey the message that up to now he and his family are OK and unharmed.

The next days will be crucial for what happens to him and his family, he says: he hopes Kherson will be liberated without street fights but anything could happen, from freedom to a very dark alternative. Possibly a humanitarian disaster. He gives his greetings and hopes to be back soon, subject to internet connection being available.

Franco

It is greatly concerning Franco, each day the news goes from hope a couple of weeks ago to dire. We all pray for his safety and hope he can get back to a safer environment soon. It is going to be a tense few weeks.

Thank you, Franco.

Every time I hear about Kherson I think of Valery and his family, hoping they are okay, so your update is very welcome. With talk of blowing the dam and detonating a ‘dirty bomb’ in the city it’s all very scary and, frankly, beyond belief that such things can even be contemplated. We can only hope these despicable acts don’t come to fruition.

Post by Bob Yoesle »

I have attempted to contact Valery multiple times via email and have had not received any replies.

This was my last communication with him late last month:

Hi Bob,

There were significant problems with internet access and with cell
phones network access, so I was not
able to reply promptly.

As for now, all is OK with me, my family and allies.

The events described at pages of the ISW have not been reported here in Kherson.
This mainly took place in Mariupol and some other heavily destroyed towns.

I am now busy with creating a food stock at my home - for a possible
time when the food flow
can be interrupted in the case of Kherson blockade or even street
fights. Also need to stock
a fair amount of drinking water for a long period, drugs/medicals etc.

Thanks for your care about us. Let hope for a good future.

Best regards,

Valery

The more recent news from the Kherson is troubling:

Russian occupation authorities are likely beginning a new phase of evacuations from Kherson Oblast. Kherson occupation deputy Kirill Stremousov stated that November 7 will be the last day of organized evacuations from the west bank of the Dnipro River. A Russian milblogger similarly noted that November 7 is the end of centralized evacuations in Kherson Oblast and that private evacuates will continue from November 8. Russian sources reported that the last boat transporting civilians from Kherson City to the east bank of the Dnipro departed on November 8 due to concerns of “increased threats to the civilian population.” The purported shift from centralized to privatized evacuation efforts suggests that Russian occupation officials have completed evacuation under formal guidelines and will increasingly continue evacuations from areas in Kherson Oblast on a more ad hoc and case-by-case basis. Russian officials may also be setting further information conditions to accuse Ukrainian forces of endangering civilian life by framing the end of centralized, administration-led evacuations as necessary to protect civilians.

Russian occupation officials will continue to intimidate residents to participate in forcible evacuation measures as the Ukrainian southern counteroffensive progresses.

Russian occupation officials increased filtration and law enforcement measures in occupied territories on November 7. The Ukrainian Resistance Center reported on November 7 that Russian occupation officials and forces are significantly increasing filtration measures and intensifying raids against the local population in Kherson Oblast in search of Ukrainian partisans. The Ukrainian General Staff reported on November 7 that Russian forces are specifically increasing the search for subversive groups and Ukrainian forward observers in Kakhovka, Kherson Oblast. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces are transporting detainees from Kakhovka to Hornostaivka, where Russian forces use torture and beatings to elicit confessions. The Ukrainian General Staff also reported that Russian forces in Borivske and Shchedryshcheve in Luhansk Oblast are conducting mass searches, seizing mobile phones, and detaining and relocating residents to unknown locations. Russian forces and occupation officials will likely increase filtration and law enforcement measures as Ukrainian counteroffensives progress.

Russian forces continued to engage in mass looting in Kherson Oblast on November 6 and 7. A Ukrainian source reported on November 6 that Russian forces looted the Kherson Oblast administrative building in Kherson City. The Ukrainian Main Military Intelligence Directorate (GUR) reported on November 7 that Russian forces are engaging in massive looting of settlements on the west bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast. The GUR reported that Russian forces massively loot household appliances throughout the west bank of the Dnipro River and methodically loot private homes, shops, warehouses, and vehicles in Beryslav Raion. The GUR also reported that Russian forces stripped the Beryslav substation of machinery, equipment, devices, and repair materials. Russian forces will likely continue to massively loot Kherson Oblast, as Russian forces continue to withdraw more units from the west bank of the Dnipro River.

Hello everyone,

I reached out to Markus Ludes at APM to see if he had heard from Valery - Markus was the best-man at Valery's wedding and Valery told me that if was able to get out of Kherson he might make the move for getting his family to Germany and restart his life and business.

Markus sent me this last night:

Hi Bob

I was every day in contact with him, but 4 days ago he told me Russians destroyed electricity and they will freeze now , no heat any longer. Since 4 days he could not read my Whats App and we could not call

But last might’ve read Russians leave western Cherson where he live so I hope to hear soon from him

Once he can drive save out of Cherson he and his family come to me to Germany for living

Viele grüsse, best regards

Markus Ludes

Hoping for this to come true and that Valery and family will soon be in the arms of friends and able to live in safety and peace. I will pass on any news I receive.

Thanks for the update.
This is a ongoing genocide, it has shown already in Mariupol that this is a goal of the russian forces. If not deported then starved, raped or frozen to death.
If the russian forces have to move out from occupied territory and they have the time, they will make sure that no grass will grow after they left.
Its terrible and i wish all the civilians the best of luck in this situation to survive it.

It appears that Russian forces are withdrawing now quite quickly and Ukrainian forces advancing very systematically but without any contact with the retreating troops. Here is a map of the situation around Kherson as of this afternoon (Nov 10). The contact line has almost reached the airport north west of the city. All internet and mobile has been cut in order to prevent locals from reporting on the withdrawal plans.

Things look very happy in Kherson today. I had a message from Valery awhile ago fearing there would be urban street fighting. Thankfully, it looks like there was nothing like that. I'm sure we will hear from him again soon once the internet gets turned back on again.

Thanks for the update Bob :bow

Good to hear he is safe, but very sad to hear his health is suffering and food/heat are scarce. Can only hope for the conditions to improve.

Can anyone tell me where Valery and family are now residing? They were on the move frequently and I lost track.

Tanks,
Brian

I hope he and the people can finally evacuate from there. Kherson is now being shelled from occupied areas as it was to be expected.
