November 3rd Session

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi all...

I have had great fall weather with lots of clear skies, but an abundance of work has limited my solar observing/imaging opportunities in recent weeks :( I have inherited additional work with the resignation of one of the managers...last time this happened I juggled two full jobs for five years  Retirement is looking good at the moment

So, with a since day on Thursday while home for lunch I took my sandwich to the dome and ran a set of solar images. Seeing was not great but there was abundant activity so I ran both the full disk and higher resolution sets and hoped hey would turn out. I was happy with the end results. The first images are through he LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha solar scope and the ASI1600MM camera with the 1.6x barlow:
LS80T_LS75_132419-FD.jpg
LS80T_LS75_132419-FD.jpg (992.51 KiB) Viewed 413 times
The modded Orion EON 130 OTA was then used for the higher resolution images, using the pair of DSII etalons, B1800Ha blocker, and the ASI290MM camera with a 1.3x barlow. The disk images were assembled into to mosaics, with one large one covering the activity on the north and eastern disk an the second covered the filament in the western disk. The mosaics blended together fairly well despite the seeing, so I was lucky :

I was running short on time so the capture of proms was limited to the two larger ones:

The ability to image in the evening hasn't suffered as badly and Jupiter is well placed to image without waiting long after sunset. The image below was taken on the 2nd through the C14 at f14, with the ASI462MC camera and a Baader IR 680nm pass filter. Io is positioned on the north edge of the Great Red Spot and its shadow trails across the cloud tops...looks like a bullet hole through the giant planet:

That's it for now,
Brian

Nice imagery Brian. You caught the NE prom and SE filament before they lifted off. The image of Jupiter turned out nice too.

Too much work and not enough play. I hope more free time finds you.

I thought you were quiet Brian, I hope this weekend has been more restful. Terrific images and I love the Jupiter pic :bow :hamster:

Thanks everyone for your comments and feedback...much appreciated as usual :bow

Alexandra, restful might not be the best term for the weekend ;) I have been working both days, with plots coming off again today...but I want the data to make the best seed choices for customers planning their 2023 crop. I don't mind it though, a chance to be in the field and get the last look at the results of 6 months of research ;)

It may be clear enough here to permit some solar before we start into the plot next to my house. First week of November with June temperatures...I think it was colder in May when we planted this plot

Full retirement is a few years away, but I don't need a full set of fingers on one hand to count them down either ;)
