Couple of solar sessions
Last weekend (13th November) I managed a solar session from the upstairs bedroom window. The seeing was terrible despite a beautiful blue sky.
I took these with a CaK and DS Halpha PST, 2x Barlow and ASI174. The WL image was taken with ND3.8 Baader film and Continuum filter on a 65mm refractor.

Today (19th November) the forecast was cloud all day. It was very foggy this morning and we had a lovely walk up the canal. At lunchtime the fog cleared and I was able to get a quick CaK shot

But the moment I set up the Halpha, clouds started to roll in. I could see an intense brightening in AR13150 but I could only snap this with rolling cloud before the light went out completely.

I missed the flare but caught up with it again when it was over at 13:20 UTC

Then that was it. Certainly a bonus for a cloudy day

Nice pictures.
I do not look at the sky with the eyes of an astronomer, but of a person looking for the beauty of nature.

Re: Couple of solar sessions
Alexandra,
Very nice on last weekends images and today's too. I caught the flare on Helioviewer and downloaded an Mp4 video of it. It's 14mb or so so it's a bit big to post here. I was wondering what class it was so thank you for letting me know. Your image of it was nice. Too bad you missed it's peak but at least you got an image of it.
I always enjoy your CaK work too! And yes, your white light image last weekend is a keeper.
James

Re: Couple of solar sessions
Exactly as everybody has already said Alexandra and yes, although the sky might appear to be good and blue, the "seeing" does not necessarily follew that the seeing is as good.
But your images certainly show some very-good results.
Thanks for sharing.
Terry
ps At last I'm getting some well-needed typing practice, after nearly five-months of not being able to do the many things that I used to do.
Still early days though, as might be starting Chemotherapy in a week or so and for how long - is not yet known. Whether that is successful is doubtful and with further possible surgery after is doubly-doubtful.
It is also unlikely that I will ever be able to continue Solar-observation and imaging myself from either of my observatories, due to ridiculous height and spread of that neighbours tree, which now also spoils my southern views and especially during the low altitudes of the Sun etc.
So will have to put-up with using Solarchat and responding to its' interesting posts.

Good luck Terry on your chemo. You have been and will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
SolarChat is a wonderful way to see the Sun and don't forget NASA's wonderful Solar Dynamics Observatory.
Sorry about the tree. I have tree issues too this time of year. I have to move from place to place to catch the Sun in the cold-weather months.

Yes I agree, Solarchat and SDO are keeping me somewhat occupied daily over the last months, whilst only being able to type better in the last week or so.
Cheers

Re: Couple of solar sessions
Difficult decisions have had to be made James and the Solar Observatory is no longer operating, with the scopes etc. in storage in-doors, as most unlikely to be in use by me again. Discussions took place recently, with that result in view of the circumstances in relation to the silly attitude of planting a ridiculous tree (now at least 40' and swaying largely towards and around the observatories Solar region)..
Also the health reasons will no-longer allow me to spend sufficient time for the Solar purposes, as well as the Moon and planets etc.. due to their East to West tracks and the aforementioned tree...
Needless to say, it has now been made clear that the neighbour's parcels will no-longer be accepted by me from the delivery firms for safe-keeping, whilst he is not in, as I have no intention now - of being a "freebie-postman"
Such is Life ??
Luckily though, my close friends have rallied-round to help me in various ways, which so-far has kept me going and with now being able to type here better (for the moment at least) will make a constructive difference in even allowing me to restart the daily SOLAR-forecasting service on SOLARCHAT, which I remember did receive many supportive posts..
