Today has been entirely cloudy and so far I have gotten only a very quick view using the 8x32 SUNoculars at 18:30 UTC through a thin place in the overcast cloud deck. I can see the large spot of the new AR13153 in the SE just inside the limb. North of it in the NE quadrant I see a single spot that is associated with a new but yet unnumbered active region. The view was very fleeting and I had no time for further studying of this disc before thicker cloud covered it up. The temperature out is 50F ( 10C )
Below is an earlier GONG Teide WL image and I captured only a single Ha image from the Slooh Teide Lunt60 scope before it went offline.

My conditions sound similar to yours James, the sunoculars saved the day. I will be taking mine with me today, off for an overnighter on the boat with my buddy. Beers and chatting rubbish all day as we chug along is the general plan. With a bit of luck over the weekend there will be some brighter patches of sky that mean I get a peek at the new sunspots.

Thanks for the report James, yesterday I could see that visually with my little Lunt LS35 Ha scope.
The Sun is to low these days for imaging with the bigger scope.

Thanks James it was sunny this morning but we walked our local canal with lovely views of a Kingfisher. When we got back it has been mostly cloudy so I have missed a solar view

An overnight trip with a friend on a boat sounds so fun. I would have have a beer or two at night with a couple of fishing poles amid lanterns or boat lighting at night. SUNoculars ready at hand by day while I enjoy the scenery going by as I chugged along the canal. I wish I was with you. I am sure we would get into talking about solar subjects!

You are welcome. That Lunt35 should be really portable with a light mount. Are you using an altazimuth mount with it? It won't be long now that we reach the Winter Solstice and the sun will begin it's slow creep northward.

You are welcome. The local species of Kingfisher here in western North Carolina is the Belted Kingfisher. I see them quite a bit around bodies of water, especially local creeks and rivers. You should carry your SUNoculars with you along with your birding binoculars just in case the sun shows himself.
