Images from 12/4/2022

Post by rigel123 »

A little late in getting these posted. Weather is still cold, 26F/-2C but warming up a bit today, of course the clouds have rolled back in as well. Seeing was Meh, and the animation I did of AR3156 showed no movement worth noting so just posting stills of that interesting area. The nice group of proms on the Eastern Limb I will include an animation on although the seeing was pretty poor and its a fairly quiescent group which should make for a decent filament if it lasts until the rotation brings it more Earth facing. Usual equipment listed in my signature. I did not notice the large floating prom (best seen in the inverted full disk image) that would have made for an interesting animation but did not see it until I processed the full disk!!

Nice pictures.

Those proms make me think of bushes moving in the wind. The solar wind in this case!!

You picked up the faint floater prom that the SDOAIA304 images showed up so well.

Thanks all for the kind comments! James, that floating prom is over 150,000 km away from the surface and has been floating there a couple of days!

I'm wondering if the "shimmering" of the bushes is from varying seeing or something else.

Wonderful images and animation Warren. I really like that last inverted image, so very much 3D.

Thanks Maurits, Peter and Franco! Having owned that little Lunt for over 10 years now Franco I have a sense of just how good that scope was put together. Most of the black portions of the scope are now bronze colored from all of the exposure this little scope has had to the sun!

Fabulous catch Warren :bow :hamster: it is a nuisance when you spot something only after processing. I guess if the floating prom has been there a while it must be attached somewhere :)

Thanks Alexandra, Clare and Peter! I looked at the SDO site and that floating prom did have some faint attachment to the south but it was fleeting. It was mostly free floating!
