Unfortunately Laura has had to postpone until the January Zoom due to unforeseen circumstances. We very much look forward to seeing you in January Laura.
We will have a good Solarchat instead, does anyone have any burning questions, want to show something?

Re: Monthly Zoom Meeting 11th December 2022
I too enjoyed the discussion today, and great to see some new faces too.
The discussion on the Solarcan gives me more to think about and revising plans to setup a new can for the winter/spring capture. I will see if I had any of the arc cut off and mount on an angle if it turns out that way.

Re: Monthly Zoom Meeting 11th December 2022
I am unable to do much else than watching the TV as well as following the various Solarchat pages, but to be able to catch-up on the Zoom meeting this evening, has certainly today on YouTube - been far more interesting than the TV.
So thanks to those taking part and of course Steven for leading this excellent version today (Sunday 11th Dec. '22), where I have been able to learn about "Pucks" and the Analemma Cameras etc.
Best Wishes & Seasons Greetings too...
Regards
Terry

Re: Monthly Zoom Meeting 11th December 2022
Gday, and thanks for the warm welcome to the Solar Chat Zoom this morning... if I looked tired I was as it was 4am here! I actually had the 'scope setup after the meeting at 530am, it was clear but very windy for about 45 minutes or so. With the rest of the week being forecast as stormy and by now being pretty much awake and very enthusiastic, I thought tired or not, you take what you can get. I will see how any of my images/short animation comes out.
Back to the ZOOM. What a great chat! It was really good to meet all you likeminded people and put some faces to names. Stephen and Alexandra kept the meeting open/flowing with content was both interesting/relevant and kept me well awake for the full hour and 5 minutes! There was lots of great input from all. Nic you mentioned you live in Yorkshire... Bradford is where I was born before leaving for OZ in 1968! Great to see Warren who has been a great mentor in my Solar journey.
I am very much Iooking forward to the next one, even at 4am!
Best wishes and have a great Family Christmas/Season with lots of Sun wherever you are!

Re: Monthly Zoom Meeting 11th December 2022
We greatly enjoyed our first Solar Chat Zoom meeting. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and the interesting discussion today. We had never contemplated the pin hole camera concept but its another thing to look at. We enjoyed everyone's enthusiasm on this topic.
It was really great to put faces to names. As we said this morning we have only been involved with solar astronomy for just over a year and have found the journey fascinating and addictive. Like Peter, one of the people that has been of great help and encouragement to us has been Warren. It was great to see him today.
It was way early in the morning for us (5am) and we have to admit that unlike Peter, at the close of the meeting we went back to bed
Hope you all enjoy your Christmas/New Year!
Clare & Peter

Re: Monthly Zoom Meeting 11th December 2022
Great to meet some more like minded people again at the zoom solar chat!
Peter, I was born and raised in Lancashire and moved to Harrogate in 1989 to start nurse training. I worked at Leeds General Infirmary for a while and did agency shifts in Bradford whilst living in Otley. I settled in York in 2000. Been to some great shows at the theatre in Bradford.
I’ve asked Sam at Solarcan about the exposure time for the analemma and he felt a minute should be enough to pick up the sun. It wouldn’t however be enough time to pick up the scene so suggested waiting until the sun was out of the way and catching the scenery but not the sun, which is a helpful top tip. I already knew that a 15min exposure would give me a ‘dash’ rather than a ‘dot’ from experience. That was on a hot clear summer’s day with the sun high in the sky. He showed me a 10 min exposure from a Puck which was very clear but still a bit more of a ‘dash’ than a ‘dot’. I’m going to trial 7 mins on Wednesday with the low winter sun and see what happens, take a peek then try to catch the scene when the sun has travelled out of shot by way of a rehearsal! I think I’m aiming for a dot rather than a dash because that’s how all the analemmas that I’ve seen look but maybe I could just break the convention! I’d rather be a little over than under as at least I’d catch something! Maybe I’m just pre-programmed not to capture the sun for more than a minute when imaging!
Thanks to Shawn and Alexandra for making me revisit my thinking. Thanks also to Stephen and Micheal for making me laugh about the muffin tin… it certainly is a way of catching the attention of my long suffering friends who hear too much about the sun!
Thanks all for your encouragement,
Nic

Thanks all for your encouragement,
Nic
