Dec 21st Frosty Sunrise

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi all...

I grabbed a quick pic of the rising sun on December 21st with my cell phone while heading to work. It there is a thin layer of fog above the snow as the temperature was warming up and all the trees had a coating of frost to make a pretty landscape.

I have been pretty much clouded out since this solstice pic was taken...I'm in the blizzard conditions that a massive storm system that is hitting much of Canada and the US with as we approach Christmas. Warren has already made reference to it. Locally here, we have had a constant wind at times pushing 90Kmh with blowing and drifting snow and it is expected to last through Christmas Eve.

I'm just glad we aren't having to travel much, but our son and his girlfriend may not make it home...they are a 3 hr drive west of us and conditions are much worse with most roads closed due to zero visibility. Snow clearing tomorrow will be a major undertaking I think ;)

I actually like these winter storms...most people think I'm crazy :P

Beautiful scene! In New Mexico the central mountain chain blocked the cold air from that storm, so we just got a bunch of wind Wednesday night.
Stay safe....

Kevin and Aaron...

Thanks for your comments :bow

Kevin, it is a huge storm system and the news showed the colds front trailing all the way down into the southern states and into Texas. It is making a huge mess of holiday travel with flight delays and cancellations. Pearson airport in Toronto had over 40% of inbound and outbound flights cancelled due to the conditions. As you said, stay safe...and warm too where it is cold too ;)

Thanks Alexandra!!!

We have all weathered the storm, but it isn't over yet. Roads here are barely passable but we have no plans to go anywhere until sometime mid afternoon Christmas day and hopefully things improve some by then. Scott is stuck in Western Ontario until the storm lets up...all roads are closed due to zero visibility and massive snow fall due to the lake effect snow. We are far enough inland that it isn't as big a factor... but he is close to Lake Huron and that area will get buried in snow. He and his girlfriend were planning to come home Christmas day but will have to wait and see what happens.

Best wishes for you and Darren to have a Happy Christmas.

Wonderful shot Brian! We lucked out only getting about 3” of snow but it still made a mess of the roads and the low temperatures and windchill was the worst! We just weathered the storm hunkered in and were able to get to my daughters for Christmas Eve and then Christmas Day when the roads were at least drivable!
