December 26 2022. A SUNocular Day.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Today I observed using the Lunt 8x32 SUNoculars for about 10 minutes starting at 16:03 UTC. The sky is overcast with thin high clouds but I can still see the sun through them but it is dimmed quite a bit so I decided on a SUNocular day. The temperature out at the time was 28F ( -2.2C ) but there was no breeze at all.

I can see four active region spot groups in the little binos! AR13176, labeled on the SWL images but not on the KSO images, is seen as a tiny but definitely visible spot near the NE limb. AR13173 is seen well NW of it but still in the NE quadrant as a single fairly easy spot. AR13171 in the NW quadrant is visible as a single spot though hinting at some size because it's actually two close together. I can see three spots clearly in AR13169 and can hint a fourth which cannot be resolved completely separately from the second spot following the westernmost lead one. The spots in the southern hemisphere are all too small to see at 8x, at least through this cloudcover.

Hi James...

Good to read your session log...the sunoculars sure do allow a quick view when time permits.

We had some clear skies this morning, but I ran out of time to pull out the PST before having to pickup and head to my parent s for day two of Christmas.

Brian,
The SUNoculars are session-savers sometimes! Yesterday was my hurry-day.

Thanks.

Enough time to share the view with my daughter and wife though so a success indeed.

Best of luck Everyone ☀️

TV antennae? That reminds me of years gone by. Now few people around here have one.

Not here in the US. Cable and streaming by far dominate.

Growing up my parents would send us kids outside to turn the antenna for better reception. We only got three or four channels in those days and only one picked up really well.

And now we have 200 channels and streaming audio and video. But it's at a cost. The old stuff was free!
