Re: Solarchat January Zoom meeting Jan 8th 1800Z
Boy I screwed up! I did it once before. Maybe once the U.S. quits changing the time from EST to EDT and back again I can get the time right in UTC on these meetings. I use UTC everyday during my posts but always double check them to make sure the time is right. I should have UTC memorized by now! I logged in at the end of the session and missed it. Dammit! It was nice to if even briefly see everyone though. And Stephen I'll probably need the glasses for just a few I come across and a few relatives. Not many though.
James
P.S. I will certainly have to watch the recording of the meeting.

Re: Solarchat January Zoom meeting Jan 8th 1800Z
It was a fabulous meeting and it was wonderful to discuss the prominence project. I do hope you got excited about it. None of us are experts but together we could try and do a prominence zoo
There were a few questions last night of which I can never remember anything apart from, I remember reading it somewhere (I think it is my age). So I looked them up this morning.
Warren asked about the term fibril.
" called mottles when found in quiet regions, fibrils when found in active regions and spicules when observed at the solar limb." I read this in the abstract of "Solar fine-scale structures. I. Spicules and other small-scale, jet-like events at the chromospheric level: observations and physical parameters G. Tsiropoula1, K. Tziotziou1, I. Kontogiannis1, M. S. Madjarska2∗,J.G. Doyle2, Y. Suematsu (2012)
Clare & Peter asked about a polar crown filament.
They have a distinct horizontal orientation (compared to midlatitude diagonal filaments). They are found at 40-80 degrees. They migrate pole ward from the start of the solar cycle and they disappear after maximum. When the PCFs approach to the maximum latitude, the polar field strength reduces to zero followed by a reversal. All extracts from here https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3 ... aad40d/pdf
Interesting, we should be watching these guys.
Steve Ibbotson asked about tilting Sun.
There is a topic in the reference library viewtopic.php?t=28249 and right at the bottom is the link to the post about how to get tilting Sun to work and doing an overlay.
I hope all these are interesting and helpful.
Alexandra

Re: Solarchat January Zoom meeting Jan 8th 1800Z
Stephen thank you for letting me in on the Zoom meeting.
It was great listening to the discussion, I have never thought about 'types' of prominence classification, I can see the reason it is needed.
I am a complete newbie to Solar and love it and have found the Solar Chat site a great source of knowledge.
I have a Lunt 60 and ZWO 178mm, but I can not decide if it is better to capture one shot or disc & limb seperatley then combine (full disc).
Detaled Proms will come later!
Thanks again.
Hugh

Re: Solarchat January Zoom meeting Jan 8th 1800Z
Thanks All for a great meeting. Unlike Peter, we did go back to bed this morning to catch a couple of extra hours sleep. We'd only got to bed at 1am in the morning the first time round - blame clear nights

HI everyone...
It was a great session yesterday and great to see attendance on the rise...the early risers in Oz play a huge part
I'm looking forward to the progress on the filament & Prom project.
Brian

Hi,
Thanks everybody, slowly recovering and now my wife has it too ... She started one day after me and today we got the result as positive.
The good thing is we will not get into a contagious circle ...
