january 14th AR 3186 and 3190 R and G filters

Post by cte »

Today I had clear skies after some early morning mist. I thought seeing was decent and took the chance of doing some "hi res" photosphere imaging with the 180 mm mak, R and G filters, and ASi 174 camera. I think when seeing supports the long focal length, it is better to image with the barlow with my combination. The sun was full of active regions, I imaged quite a lot, but here I'm posting what I deem the most interesting ones for the moment. I think a good deal of details can be seen in the umbral and penumbral regions of these spots. In AR 3190, I think a light bridge is well evident. When shooting under ROI conditions I could get close to 200 fps with the red filter, which I think helps a lot in contrasting the turbulence. The pictures attached are the result of stacking the best 20% of a ca. 5000 frame recording, followed by wavelet treatment, LR deconvolution and a little photoshop post processing to adjust levels and curves. I was hoping to do Halpha tomorrow, but the sky here will get cloudy again starting from this evening and will stay so for a few days.

Beautiful detail on both of these regions. The light bridge in the big spot of AR13190 is quite striking. Quite bright and very thin. Does it connect to the faculae outside of the spot on one side or is it just me?

AR13186 shows really nice detail with the fibrils ( Penumbral striations ) and the detail in the eastern spots in the group showing very well.

Congratulations on the SPOD!!

James

Hi James,

Here I am attaching an inverted image to try to provide some more evidence to your insight about the structure of the light bridge. I think you are right, the light bridge is departing from the faculae outside the spot, it seems there is actually a ramification of the bridge in three of four lanes.

Thank you guys for all your support, this is a really great forum, I will keep working to improve my imaging skills.

Awesome. I think this is the first time I have seen a light bridge affect the immediate region outside of a spot. In your inverted image it shows evidence of even an extension into the faculae on the northern edge!

Very nice images, especially the second one with lovely granulation and penubral details.
