January 15th Session

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

High pressure continued to make our weather on the weekend and the cold and clear conditions were present for my solar session on Sunday morning. I was out a bit earlier and the temps stayer off around -15C but crept up to the -6C range when I shut down for lunch. The seeing was surprisingly good despite the cold which made imaging more productive.

The sun had 10AR's to work on, which is really too much...I have a job on the side to keep up with over and above the image processing demands  It is great to have so much detail, considering a few short years ago the daily counts were zero ;) The first images are a set of FD images through the DS LS80T for the Ha and the Orion EON 130 for the WL and CaK, all captured with the ASI1600MM camera:

The seeing was good enough to allow me to run the ASI290MM with a 2x barlow ahead of the ASI290MM to image the AR's in WL and CaK. Here are the features moving east across the disk:

Somehow I missed the big AR on the NE quadrant in CaK :?

I used the DS LS80T/LS75FHa solar scope and ASI290MM camera to image the main AR's. I used a couple of barlows but assembled these mosaics of the large groups form images taken with the 1.6x barlow:

To close off, I did grab a few images of the proms...no large active ones but some nice details in them none the less:
16x_LS80T_LS75_113308_NE Proms.jpg
16x_LS80T_LS75_113308_NE Proms.jpg (154.06 KiB) Viewed 550 times

16x_LS80T_LS75_113348_NE Proms.jpg (175.78 KiB) Viewed 550 times
The last one looks like a shark fin cutting across the NE limb ;)

I do have a set of Ha images taken at a longer focal length that I have yet to finish processing...I will add them in if they look any good!

Questions and comments are always welcome.

Thanks,
Brian

Hi all...

One final addition to this data set.

I re-processed the images taken through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha and ASI290MM camera using a 2.5x barlow and assembled several mosaics at the higher resolution. A few show some newton rings that I wasn't able to completely flat out :?

The results are shown below, open in a new window to get the full resolution:
