Solar Images Jan 22 2023

Post by Solbrillante »

Please find attached four images taken today in poor seeing with a 120mm f7.5 Sky Watcher Doublet Refractor.
My intention was to record images in Ca II K, Continuum and Hydrogen Alpha just after sunrise.
Unfortunately, here in Mount Barker it remained cloudy until 12:00 and by this time the Sun was high in the sky.
Seeing was poor in the warmth of the day but I was determined to record something after all the effort
I had put into preparations the day before.

Very nice images Gerard despite the poor conditions.

James, Mt Barker is in South Australia.

Good result Gerard! Try stopping the scope down to 90mm in CaK.

Thanks Peterm, James, Maurits, Franco, Clare and Peter and Mark for your positive comments and suggestions. Much appreciated.
Mark, I did take your suggestion seriously and made a mask for this new scope. It’s stopped down to 100 mm from 120mm. Do you think it needs to come down more?

Hi Gerard...

Good image set conditioner the seeing...the UV is not very tolerant of bad seeing

Stopping the scope down does improve the CaK...my 130mm stopper to 90mm is usually much better than full aperture.

Thanks Brian.
As your and Mark’s suggestions point to, I will add additional stops over my objective lens and hopefully I will get a better result.
