23rd Jan Sun and a lift off !

Post by JohnW »

23rd Jan. SE Australia.
10 am AEDT (= 23.00 hrs UT on 22nd Jan).
Attached are 4 images I took of the Sun this morning in good conditions.
The first shows the sunspots at 540 nm.
The other images show the sun at the Halpha wavelength.

In particular the second and third images show the NE limb and a prominence that has lifted off. This prominence only lasted a few minutes before it was gone. The two images of it are 4 minutes apart (starting 22.56 hrs on 22nd Jan UT).
The last image shows the W limb around the big sunspot AR 3190 we have been following for the last week. It will soon be gone.
All images are single exposures with a Canon 550d camera.
Thanks for viewing.
John W.

You’re very lucky to have captured that fleeting prom action, there, John. Nice images.
