January 27 2023. Prominence Imaging Session.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Today was a bit busy so I decided on a short session mainly to image prominences. The session was only about 10 minutes long, between 16:20 and 16:30 UTC. It took me longer to set up and take down than it took to me capture these images! All are simple image captures since I lack the time to stack and process them and will be gone to dad's over the weekend. I used the SMII90 in single stack with the PGR Grasshopper camera and MacOS High Sierra 17" MacBook Pro. Image acquisition was done using ASTRO IIDC and simple processing/editing was done in GIMP. The seeing was a bit below average and the temperature a cold 36F ( 2.2C ). Clear skies and breezy. It's the coldest day so far that I have imaged.

Here are some of the images.

Happy Friday and may all here have a sunny solar weekend! :hamster:

James

Thanks James, good to see these. Great captures of the proms. At 2.2C we wouldn't want a longer session anyway :)

Thanks Avertons. It was just a quickie snapshot session since I had little time. It was quite chilly. Colder than I usually would try to image in though some here have done so in much colder weather than this. Taking and editing these single-frame captures was actually quicker than me taking visual notes at the telescope while doing a visual session and typing it all down in a completed report complete with reference images. Now if I would have done the complete stacking and processing routine it would have taken longer. I need to be retired so I would have more time!!

Nice proms James , I'd like to try imaging on a cold day, it was 32 degrees Celsius when I started imaging today, and about 36 degrees at lunchtime.

A very nice set of proms, James, well done. The SM90 in single stack mode is excellent for this.

Thanks, and welcomes everyone!! And yes, Franco the SMII90 excels on prominences in single stack.

Thanks Arne. I have imaged as much this month as I do in the summer months. That's unusual for January. January has been overall quite mild here. December was considerably colder. I am curious on how February will be. Time will tell.
