Friday Session 03-02-2023

Post by Martin_S »

I've been out west at my sons place looking after his animals while he's overseas with his family, I came back to Brisbane today to beat the heat and have my Solar hit for the week. It was a stinker of a day. I set up the thermometer in the shade on my telescope and recorded 39.5degrees celsius.

The sky was reasonable stable as there is a high pressure system over South East Queensland .

Here are my best shots for the day.

Very nice.

I do not look at the sky with the eyes of an astronomer, but of a person looking for the beauty of nature.

Thanks Stu, we have air conditioning and a fridge full of icy cold water, to help stay cool.

The prom time lapse video is very impressive, plus the SE close up is sharp and detailed.
Great work in the heat Martin!
BTW while you guys are sweltering, it snowed at Mt Buller today and we had hail and rain in Melbourne and we've had the heater on all day - go figure!!

Martin,
All of these are good, but that northern prom is exceptional. The strands of plasma within it look thick, dense and matted together.

Great Work!! :bow

Sounds like a lovely break, even if it was hard work to tend to the animals :)

Lovely animations, I like the tiny ball of plasma that gets kicked about in the prom one, not much movement apart from that small detail :bow :hamster: :movie

Thank you all for your comments and local temperature observations. Our heatwave should continue till Sunday.

The prom animation was imaged at F/33 with my ASI174, which is way oversampled, If I want to image proms at F/22 which is the critical sampling rate for the 174, I use a focal reducer which at higher exposure settings tends to show a lot of background refection's from the focal reducer as well as vignetting. With no focal reduction the image is clean.
So Yesterday I ordered a ASI432mm so I can image proms without using a focal reducer and hopefully eliminate these problems. The 9um pixels on the ASI432mm will be perfect for my image scale of F/33.

Lovely shots Martin. I have a sunny sunday forecast so hoping to get my first real sun of the year.

I will be interested how you get on with the new camera, I'm thinking of one for my telecentic Ha imaging.

Well done Martin. Was an awful day heat wise yesterday and last night for sure. Superb Prom animation. The 432MM is an excellent camera. I'm have to use the 5X Powermate to get critical sampling and will be ideal for your setup.
