3rd Feb. Spectacular plasma jet !
A spectacular jet of plasma originating from beyond the NE limb showed up on SUVI imagery by the GOES-16 satellite (reported on 3rd February 15.45 hrs UT). I have attached the satellite images as they are worth seeing. I am not sure if anyone on Solarchat saw or recorded anything at this time – it was too cloudy for me. This wavelength is in the extreme ultraviolet and I could not see anything in the visible wavelengths. Emissions lasted until about 23.58 hrs UT on 3rd Feb.

Thanks John! That would have been nice to see in a Ha scope.

GlobalInnovator,
The Sun like all stars is made up of electrically charged plasma. It's too hot for a gas to exist. One big difference between a gas and a plasma is that plasmas respond to magnetic fields and that's easily seen on the Sun. Plasma is very electrically conductive. Gases are generally insulators. Plasma may appear " fluid like " but is certainly not a fluid in the traditional sense.
Very nice data, John. I do wonder whether this could have been seen in Ha. If so it might have been quite faint.

Wow!! that is the biggest jet I have seen, I hope someone managed to see this in Halpha or CaK maybe
The next question, what incredible active region did this blow from coming soon I hope

If you go to the site https://sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov/data/ and select the AIA 304 A and under Data Links you can select the 48 hour video. There were a number of blasts from that region.

Wow, that is the largest eruption that we have seen. Truly spectacular! It will be interesting to see the active region that caused that when it rotates onto the disk.

No offense but this is a forum to discuss and share ideas and images concerning solar astronomy imaging and observation as well as solar astronomy outreach efforts related to the Charlie Bates Solar Astronomy Project. please limit your posts to those topics.
I also saw several posts where you were looking for whoever owns this forum. That would be me.
