Winter Visitors - Updated

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

The bird feeders in our front yard have been very popular lately and I have been very happy to see that we have 3 cardinals frequenting them in the past week. I have seen one on occasion before, so this is a bonus. Besides the cardinals we have the usual assortment of Black-capped Chickadees, English House Sparrows, BlueJays, Hairy Woodpeckers and Redbellied Woodpeckers. None of the Redbellied wanted to pose for pics

It was still bellow -20C when I was taking pics late yesterday morning so I think they appreciated the bird seed and suet!

I managed to get a number of additional photos today (Sunday), with the new pics below:

Hi Brian,

Beatiful. Strange that those do not migrate.

Thanks Ranier :bow

It is true that some birds migrate, but there is a large number of species that live locally year round...very hardy and adaptable ;)

Wow!! what amazing colour your birds have, the Cardinal is an absolute cracker!!

What are the little birds on the right, they almost look like our Snow buntings but not quite right. I must get my bird book out :)

Thanks Alexandra :bow

I was very happy to get some closer shot of the Cardinal on Sunday and the new software I have been trying is really nice for extracting fine details. It is called DxO PhotoLab, and a friend raves about it and has the most detailed wildlife images using it. A high end zoom lens doesn't hurt either ;)

There is 30 day trial available and he even finds it good for some astro image processing too.
