Hi,
My best CaK SHG from today and then clouds rolled in. I am still not able to acquire the ser files at high speed because the mount has no good tracking speed.
I finally found out the blackouts of my USB 3.0 streaming and the culprit is the built in USB 3.0 hub from iOptron ... Sh...t They have a new internal Hub at a cost of about US $ 300.00 but this is the 3rd Hub they have built but I do not trust them anymore. I will throw in a single USB 3.0 cable through the mount ...
also made some temeratures measurements agaín and it look like the cooler I made is capable of keeping the temperature at or even a bit under ambient temperature.
Session Start after a few minutes the camera reached 39.1°C
some screenshots during the session. The focuser temperature is a sensor connected to the savaged ZWO EAF focuser, just hanging free in the air.
Session end
The whole cooler has a cost of about US $ 35.00 including my 3D printing cost as if I woud sell them.
Parts are
W1209 temperature controller
40x40mm Heatsink with 110 fingers
TEC1-12706
WINSINN Fan 4010 12V
Jack for 5.5x2.1mm plug
3x printed parts
Miscelanous screws, brass inserts and some wires.
and some time for assembling

Re: 18-03-2023 CaK 3933Å
Hi highfnum,
No problem at all. Some time ago this was discussed and based on that and having time and to get rid of boredom I started with somje designs, printed them and then it started to develop until I reached this point with the sandwiched TEC.
A forum member from Australia also played with coolers, specially a Black Shark cooler. https://tinyurl.com/BlackSharkCool
viewtopic.php?f=32&p=371542#p371542
So, no problem, but interesting to see what is achievable with a bit of imagination and a 3D printer ...
I would dare to say my cooler is more effective then the Black Shark until somebody proofs me I am wrong
Having fun that is all.

The Calcium image is quite good. What is the focal ratio? I have found the results improve if to mask the aperture to f/10.
USB hubs are be problematic. Best to connect directly to the computer with 3m limitation for the most important connections.
That is a really impressive temperature reduction. Have you taken apart the camera yet to see how thermal connection is made inside?

Thanks. At the moment I have an f/5.85. 240mm focal length and UV/IR filter aperture is 41mm. I have some aperture stops which I can test tomorrow if it is Sunny.
Thanks for the cooling system comment. No. I have not yet opened the ASI 178MM but on the next opportunity I can check it. My thinking was that if the inner air inside the housing is cool the chip will also run cool. The measured temperature comes from the internal camera temperature sensor. I do not know where it is located.
Already thinking in making a part which connects the back side of the chip to the inside housing.
regards Rainer

Very nice Rainer!

Great result Rainer.
I have the CEM60 and had problems with the USB 2 hub by way of always dropping connections so I ripped it out of the mount along with all the onboard wiring. I got a project box and installed the hub in to it thinking I use it off the mount and the thing still don't work. As you say absolute waste of time,it all went in the bin!
