March 21 2023 Observations
My session time was from 15:00 until 16:00 UTC. The skies are mostly clear with a few high cirrus type clouds. The seeing is a bit above average at session's beginning but falls gradually to just below average by session's end. The temperature at 15:30 UTC is 46F ( 7.7C ).
Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x, 50x and 83X. ( WLC )
Observing the photosphere first at the beginning of the session I can see seven active regions in white light continuum. Three of these are in the northern hemisphere and all three are NOAA labeled. Four are visible in the southern hemisphere with all four having NOAA number labels on the SM, KSO and SWL images.
AR13260 shows a single spot displaying an umbra and penumbra. The 6mm TeleVue Delos eyepiece at 83x shows a gap in the penumbra's SE side. A pore can be seen SW of the spot without difficulty. SDO high resolution 4K imagery shows tiny pores just SE of the spot and another NNW of the large pore SW of the main spot. I can see none of these with certainty. Faculae are seen east of the spot. A pore can be seen well SE of the spot imbedded in faculae. It would not surprise me if this is magnetically distinct from AR13260. AR13258 to the west of AR13260 can be seen as a small scattered area of tiny pores early in the session. These pores are hard to see and only visible at 83x. By mid-session the seeing renders them invisible. AR13252 near the NW limb is visible only as faculae.
AR13261 near the SW limb is visible as a spot with a large pore to it's SE. A group of tiny pores are seen just north of the large pore at 83x. The triple complex of AR13256-57-59 in the SE quadrant looks splendid. The large spot of AR13256 shows an easy umbra and penumbra. I can see mottling in the penumbra early in the session as well as some tiny nearby pores. Just ESE lies a group of scattered tiny spots/pores. SpaceWeatherLive has this labeled as AR13259 but I strongly suspect it is the easier group of small spots and pores to the NE which has a greater separation from the others. AR13259 to the SE of AR13256 is a nice double spot with the elongated northern spot showing an easy umbra and penumbra. It's smaller southern neighbor shows umbra-penumbra structure too! I can see some pores just to the NW of the bigger elongated spot. SDOHMI4K images show some tiny pores SE of these two spots that I cannot see.
Early in the session I could see the fine solar granulation without difficulty. By session's end it was more washed out.
Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 25x and 33x. ( 656.28nm )
I can see nine active region plages in the Ha chromosphere today. Five in the northern hemisphere with three being labeled in the SM BBSO Ha image. The southern hemisphere has four visible regions with three of these being labeled in the BBSO Ha image. AR13261 is shown labeled by SWL making all four labeled.
AR13260 in the NE quadrant is seen as a spot within plage. More plage is seen just SE of it. Filments surround AR13260 with an easier one to it's SW. Just east of the CLM lies AR13258 which is visible as plage. Just SW of it lies a lower contrast separate area of plage. A nice filament lies north of AR13258 and another in a small plage area NE of it. One small filament is seen within AR13258 itself. AR13252 near the NW limb is seen as low contrast plage. A filament is noticed well NE of it.
A small plage is seen in the far SW quadrant. It is AR13261. Small filaments are located well to the SE of it. The SE quadrant easily shows the three spots and easy plages of the AR13256-57-59 complex. A filament is visible just east of the big spot of AR13256. I can see some smaller filaments in the vicinity with greater difficulty.
An elongated floating prominence is seen above the western limb just south of the equator. It's quite dim in doublestack. I can hint some mottling in it. I also see fairly faint prominences on the SSE and NNW limb.
The spicule mottling of the chromosphere is visible without difficulty.
