March 23 2023 Observations.
My session time today was from 14:50 until 15:53 UTC. The skies have a fair amount of high cloudiness but the seeing is a bit above average. The temperature is a much warmer 65F at ( 18.3C ) at 15:30 UTC.
Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x, 50x and 62.5x. ( WLC )
I can see ten areas of activity on the WL photosphere today. Four areas in the northern hemisphere with two being NOAA labeled. Six regions are seen in the southern hemisphere. Four of these carry NOAA labels.
An easy patch of faculae is seen near the NE limb. I see no spots or pores within it. To it's west I see another patch of faculae much more difficultly but a single tiny pore is seen within it. Further west still, lies AR13260. It's well structured spot shows it's umbra and penumbra easily. I can see a light bridge within the umbra. To the SW of it I can see three pores. SDO high resolution shows a line of tiny pores just SE of the larger spot and very tiny pores north of the three larger pores in the south. Surprisingly I can see these tiny things!! SDO high rez shows one of those three larger pores to be a close double pore. I did not notice that in the scope. Just west of the CLM lies AR13258. I see it as only a single tiny spot. SDO shows some very tiny pores attending it. I did not see them.
AR13262 is seen in the far SE as a double-umbra spot sharing a penumbra. A lighter gap is seen in the southern part of the penumbra. Faculae are seen to the SE that contains a single large pore. Well to the west is a large complex of what now appears to be four active spot regions. Three are shown with labels, AR13256 which is on/at the meridian and is seen as a large structured spot. The umbra can be seen to be light bridged and I can see some difficult mottling in it's penumbra. SDO 4K images show some very tiny pores SE of it. I did not see them. East of it, AR13259 is seen as a collection of small spots and pores. It confuses me that this is labeled when the larger double spot region to the SE is not. I have had some confusion about this over the last several days. I would have thought that label would have applied to this region. It's far more prominent than the central one that carries a label or for that matter AR13257 to the NE of AR13259 which is also a collection of small spots and pores. I wonder if the central region of spots ( AR13259 ) are bound to the double spot to it's SE. It does not appear so. That now apparently unnumbered spot region shows two structured spots. The elongated northern one shows a light bridge within it's umbra and an easy penumbra is seen. The smaller spot to the south has a penumbra that does not cover the umbra on it's NE side. I did not see the numerous very tiny pores nearby shown in the SDO HMI 4K images. A tiny facula is seen in the SW quadrant.
The fine granulation of the solar disc is easily seen but no individual granules can be seen with this small aperture.
Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 25x and 33x. ( 656.28nm )
Nine areas of activity can be seen in the Ha chromosphere today. Two of four carry NOAA labels on the BBSO SM image in the northern hemisphere. Five regions are seen in the southern hemisphere with four of these carrying NOAA labels on the BBSO SM Ha image.
It first must be said that I can see to some degree the belt of activity that contains the northern active regions to almost cross the entire disc in the northern " temperate " solar latitudes. It's much less so in the southern hemisphere where the belt can only be seen across half the disc in the SE quadrant.
The NE quadrant shows a faint plage near the limb. East of it lies a large area of plage with a spot at it's western end. This is AR13260. I do see a couple of fine filaments associated with it but they are a bit hard to see. Well NW close to the CLM lies a curved easier one to see. Just across the CLM in the NW quadrant lies AR13258. It's seen as plage with thin filaments streaming to the west to the unlabeled region to the WSW. A polar crown of filaments is seen north of this belt of plages.
A spot and plage is seen in the far SE quadrant. This is AR13262. A complex of apparently four active regions are seen in the SE quadrant, west of AR13262 to the Central Longitudinal Meridian. It's a beautiful mass of plage with three easy spots. One to the west ( AR13256 ) and the other in the SE part of the complex, who's identity is in question. A filament is seen east of the spot of AR13256 and another curves around the spots in the SE corner of the complex. A curved filament is all that is seen in the SW quadrant.
All four corners of the disc show prominences but they are quite small and ordinary except for one. A nice little easy curved filaprom on the SW limb. It's tiny filament portion is easy to see and points towards another curved filament well inside the limb.

Nice report James, glad you are getting a look in. Weather has been awful here, spring is coming and the flowers are all out, but the skies are grey and wet. I have work this morning but it looks like there may be some cloud breaks this afternoon, so, if there is I want to get out and do some viewing. Things have been sooo busy here lately i've not even had the time to spend on Solarchat as much as I like.

I stayed out of work today to get some yardwork, or gardenwork as you might say, done. It was really nice today here and warm. I don't have a lot of free time on the weekend anymore with me helping out my aging dad every other weekend and then visiting my daughter on the weekend I don't go to dad's. Fortunately my wife has been very understanding of the situation and has been behind me all the way. I really should have not stayed out of work due to the lighting business being a bit slow now. I need to save vacation and personal time in case there are lack of work periods. But I needed time to do some work around here. I know what you mean, so much to do and so little time. Solar observing is a reprieve but even it is taking more and more time as the activity increases on the Sun.
I was hoping you caught the aurora last night. When it hit Kp7 and Kp8 I started looking for it. I did not see anything but hearing the news today some locals got lucky. Aurorae are rare at 35 north latitude!
I just posted today's observations. They are from a combination of notes taken down at the scope, reference images from professional sources and memory. I hate posting late. I feel my info is more accurate if I do it as I observe or just after I complete the session. The seeing was really nice today.
