Short GIF animation of AR3256

Post by oriolestation »

Surges and Ellerman bombs, an emerging flux region between the two groups of pores, and flaring in the plage in the upper left corner producing a large surge filament. Interestingly, activity can be seen underneath the large active region filament, a dark surge quickly develops and fades. The H-alpha filter has a 0.8A bandpass so it's not surprising to see the lower layers of the chromosphere through the AR filament. A few Ellerman bombs come and go in the short video near the large spot along with curious little dark surges or fibrils at the outer boundary of the penumbra.

The filter is tuned to the blue wing specifically to capture dark surges. The movie is made up with 13 minutes of video.

Lots of lovely details and activity, even in this short animation. Mesmerising. A narrower bandpass would miss this lower chromospheric activity, for sure.
Nicely done.
