New 2nm G-Band filter from Altair
Hi there, a quick Friday evening message for anyone interested in G-Band imaging
We developed a new Altair 2nm G-Band solar contrast filter with very high transmission.
Each filter comes with an individual spectrographic test report for that specific filter.
You will notice the price is pretty good. I cannot guarantee we can keep this price for too long. It all depends on whether we get enough orders to keep pricing stable.
You can buy them from any Altair dealer worldwide, or you can order directly. Put the product in your basket and click checkout, then choose your country to see the delivery price.
Hope to see some images coming soon - some experienced solar imagers have already ordered them, and a few will be arriving in various countries within a day or two.
Thanks for looking, and have a great (hopefully sunny) weekend!

Re: New 2nm G-Band filter from Altair
You mention imaging, but description on the site mentions visual. How would this stack up to a baader continuum filter, if just talking about visual ?

I have a 430nm Gband filter from Edmund Optical. 10nm bandpass. This one at 2nm BP should be better.

Re: New 2nm G-Band filter from Altair
I am curious on how it turns out. My 10nm bandpass Gband filter I rarely can use optimally due to the normally substandard seeing in my area which affects that shorter wavelength badly. I live very close to the Blue Ridge Escarpment which I think is one reason my seeing is often so poor. I have noticed that when I go to my friend's house in Rock Hill S.C. or my dad's in Lowndesville S.C. that they seem to average better seeing than I do here in Edneyville despite their lower altitude. Once I move to dad's towards year's end or at the beginning of next year a 2nm bandpass filter replacement may become more usable to me.

Re: New 2nm G-Band filter from Altair
So has anyone used this visually ? How would it compare with the Baader continuum/k filters for visual use ?

Re: New 2nm G-Band filter from Altair
Visually I find the 430nm filter considerably dimmer than the 540nm filter. Still it can be used visually without much difficulty. Faculae are more visible with the 430 vs the 540nm filter but the filter is very seeing dependent for fine detail. More so than the 540nm filter. The color is a violet blue for the 430 vs a bright lime green for the 540. I tend to use the 430nm more for imaging while I use the 540nm for both imaging and visual. For me the eyes greater sensitivity to the 540nm wavelength makes it preferred for visual use over the 430nm filter.
A K-line filter is going to be really dim for visual use. Dimmer than a 430nm Gband filter. It's more of an imaging wavelength.

Re: New 2nm G-Band filter from Altair
Thanks ! If that's the case, I have the 10nm Baader, is the 7.5nm worth it over the 10? Re: New 2nm G-Band filter from Altair
Strangely I don't notice a dramatic difference between my Edmund 10nm Gband filter Vs the Altair 2nm Gband filter. The only difference I notice is that the contrast is a bit better with the Altair filter. Theoretically the Altair should be better on Gband features during good seeing too. I would have expected more differences between these filters than what I have seen so far.
