Spitfire pair over Cowlinge , 18th May 2023.

Post by steveward53 »

Had my lunch very pleasantly interrupted today by the unmistakable sound of a pair of fast approaching Rolls-Royce Merlins ... :P

Shot outside right sharpish with the Canon 2000D and Sigma 150-600mm in hand to use the combo for its intended purpose.

Had a lovely 15 minute personal display as they circled the village numerous times in close formation.

Shot 104 frames and kept 91 of them ... a considerably better average than I get when imaging the Sun ...

Link here to the album on Flikr so as not to clog up the site. Shots straight from the camera unedited yet.

Wow, very cool! Beautiful planes, and such history.

One has British and one has American markings. That's kind of interesting. I didn't think the US ever flew that plane. I guess it's in the hands of an American collector?

It's a pretty good spot here , I'm only 16 and ahalf miles from IWM Duxford where they're based and it's a regular route for them for pre-display practising and after-maintenance check flights , especially this time of year

Wow! How beautiful they are, definitely one of the most elegant planes! I am collecting models and I have one of these on a scale of 1:72 in striped painted wings over camouflage. The folding door with a crowbar inside is so cute.

I found that this is the aircraft of the 309th Fighter Squadron USAF PORKY II. I think that a pair of these beauties would transit through the disk of the Sun, provide you with SPoD.
