Beautiful development of loop prom at AR3305 Animation 5/21/2023

Post by rigel123 »

It's always fun to discover that you caught something and were totally unaware of it until processing the AVI's! I started yesterday focusing on the area that was rotating out of view of the NW Limb which included AR's 3302, 05 and 08 since spots on the limb typically yield some nice sure activity to capture for animations. I was not aware during the nearly 2 hours that I was capturing these files that this loop was developing since it was so faint and I had Gamma turned off during the captures. Something else I have noticed with seeing that I would rate as a 5. Typically in less than perfect seeing I will see a hint of Newton Rings with my setup. I typically take flats to reduce them. In this case, no flats, and no hints of rings, banding, etc.

So captured 500 frame AVI's with a 30 second delay between each between 12:48 - 14:34 UTC. Lunt LS60T DS/ASI174MM/Meade 3X TeleXtender

This is most excellent! Your images always have a very delicate feel, amazing resolution. If you look closely at the polar crown prominence, despite being just over the limb, a bubble void is recognizable at the base with rising dark plumes. Good stuff!

Cheers!

Thanks Petr, Alan, Aaron and Jim!

I'm glad you pointed out that bubble Jim, I missed it! Thanks for the comment on processing, I sometimes wonder if I should go a bit more contrasty but I always trend towards a softer look.
