May 21st Ha - through the haze and smoke
Good day everyone...
Our spring experience has been rather dry (but not overly hot locally), but we have had more days with high altitude smoke from the fires out in western Canada than without. Daytime skies are usually pasty white and the sun hasn't been casting strong shadows a few hours either side of sunrise or sunset. Night skies are not very good for imaging either. It has made for some picturesque sunrise and sunsets, but the filtered sunlight isn't going to do the crops any favors if it lasts long.
It is a long weekend here and after heavy rain Saturday I'm working on chores around the yard that have become backlogged with long work days. I did steal a few hours Saturday morning to do some imaging and the better captures are shown below. Too early to tell if I get out today or not
The first image is a colorized FD Ha image through the DS LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha and the ASI1600MM camera. This image was from a capture made with the Gamma higher to pull up the proms, not the usual composite I usually do: The next set of images was taken with my modded Orion EON 130 OTA fitted with a single Lunt DSII etalon and B1800 blocker, and the camera was an ASI174MM camera with a 2.5x Teleview Powermate: I changed the Powermate to the 4x version for the balance of the images. Duplication of targets, but I wanted to try the higher resolution option which I kinda like : AR3311 was flaring while I was out, and always amazing to see changes in real time! This pretty much covers the image set form the session. Hope you enjoy them!

Brian,
I like all your images but the first colored one is really nice. It's bright, lively, looks hot and really " pops "!! The proms show up excellently.

Re: May 21st Ha - through the haze and smoke
That's a great collection, Brian!
This seems a bit early for Canadian fire season?? Last year at this time we had multiple nearby fires, but this May has generally been cool and rainy, or at least cloudy - very unusual. I'm happy for the rain, but it would be nice to have some sun to image!

Re: May 21st Ha - through the haze and smoke
James, Alexandra, Kevin, and Eric...
Thanks for your feedback and it is always appreciated
The colourized full disk was a bit of a mistake on my part, I overwrote the original mono version by mistake and didn't recreate it. The colour version does have a bot of a 'snap' to it
Kevin, it has been dry after the snow melt in the west and the spring fires have become a major concern. My daughter is working in Alberta again this summer and she had gone to Edmonton with friends on Sunday and said the air was thick with smoke. At my distance it is high altitude haze (can't smell it), but the past few dark, moonless nights I would estimate that I can't see stars below mag 3. On good dark, transparent nights getting below 5th magnitude isn't a problem. We had a weather pattern change today, with much improved sky conditions that I appreciated very much
