Sun in Whitelight 24th May 2023

Post by steveward53 »

Appalling wibbles and wobbles up there today , but with cloud approaching fast I kept pressing the shutter button and then selected 49 lovely frames from the 800 shot ... :D

I was seeing a small but distinct bright ring in the area between ARs 13311 and 13314 during capture , I'd love to know if that area was flaring , sadly SDO 304 is not caught up past midnight yet , the shots were taken between 07:30 and 07:45 UTC. My image shows it clearly when you zoom in ... :)

Thanks Arne ,

I was getting worried when I rejected the first 600 frames as unusable , and then found about forty-odd lovely crisp ones in the next set of 120 I went through ... and the clouds had already rolled over so I couldn't try again ...

Great disks Steve! Checking SpaceWeather I see a flare at 8:00 UTC but not at the times you were imaging. It sure looks like flaring.

Steve,
Imaging at 540 and 430nm eight hours or so after you I did not pick up a ring around a spot in the western part of AR13311 as you did but did pick up some brighter areas in a couple of spots in the SE of AR13311. I won't go as far as saying they are white light flares but that area has been very active lately.

Nice images. Yours are a bit sharper than mine turned out to be.
