May 28 2023. KSO. Again.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Today was another total washout. Rain all day under an overcast sky. I did catch the Kanzelhohe high cadence image feed running this morning around 13:30 UTC. I left for church and then to see my daughter and was there almost until sunset, not that it mattered weatherwize. Here's the saved images.

Thanks JAmes, I hope your weather improves. I've got predominantly cloudy skies this morning, but have had the 50mm stellarvue out. I compared a 9mm svbony eyepiece with my Pentax zoom. The latter was the better one. The spots are still nice and easy. Hopefully I will get some clear skies in a bit and will be able to get some scopes out.

I love watching your daily sessions. It is such a ritual.

Well the clear skies haven't materialised yet, so, i've been tinkering...

Swapped the finder foot on the base of the SV for a vixen foot. This now fits in the Heliofind nicely, and the foot of it has a 1/4 / 20 thread on it so it will also go on a camera tripod. I think this is rapidly becoming my favourite grab and go!

Very nice Mark. I would find that an awesome grab and go too, even competing with the SUNoculars in some situations. The little binos are still easier to take to work though.

I am fighting similar cloudiness. I have gotten only a quick general view so far. Clouds are getting worse. Slooh and the KSO are not running realtime at the current time so no help from them today. I do have some KSO images from a bit earlier though for reference.

Good luck on clearing. Nice job on that super grab and go scope!

Thanks Petr. It is. When I started my " SolarMax Project " back in May 2019 my goal was to document the entire solar cycle 25 on a daily basis. Naturally as much as I can with my own equipment but online assistance is a must for cloudy and or busy days when I cannot observe or image and sources like SDO, KSO, GONG, etc are certainly great as guides or references since their images are very often current and updated. Slooh and KSO are often realtime or very close to it. And then there is the awesome imagery from other SolarChat members like you who post incredible, often closeup high resolution images. I am so grateful.

Isn't the internet and computer age wonderful!? When I started observing back in 1978 all I had were two small refractors and binoculars, books and charts and Instamatic Kodak cameras! Tech has came a long way. And I really had no one to share it all with.

Anyway. A ritual it is...

It is. My weather has sucked lately. The cloudiness has been more like February than May! I am beginning to realize how those poor Brits feel.

I just think I need to keep a pair of (sun)binoculars at my office at work, it has a south facing window with low horizon so is ideal.

If I had an office at work I would keep a set there.

Good luck in your observations today. Be safe and good morning. it's bedtime for me.
