Altair G-Band filter - First light on AR3315
First light on AR3315 with the new Altair G-Band 430nm filter.
May 29th around 8:20am, High hazy clouds all day and the seeing was all over the place but was still very happy with this.
ED120mm telescope, Baader Herschel wedge, ASI290MM camera, barlowed to ~f12

That's an excellent first light with the filter Rob, I must pick one up myself.

Re: Altair G-Band filter - First light on AR3315
Thanks Mark, I think it is a real improvement for WL imaging.marktownley wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 5:25 am That's an excellent first light with the filter Rob, I must pick one up myself.
I also tried it visually against a continuum (540nm 10nm bp) and OIII (501nm 6nm bp).
This was only with an 80mm scope but the improvement over the continuum was very obvious,
540nm good detail on AR3315 solar disc smooth green no sign of granulation in small scope
501nm better contrast on AR3315 and a worthy improvement. Solar disc is more of a matt texture. A hint of plage is there but not anything substantial in the 80mm.
430nm better contrast again on AR3315, surface of disc is "rough" hinting at granulation. Plage is visible in AR's although not very pronounced at 80mm.
I am looking forward to trying this with a larger scope, the 120 and especially the 200mm CC (I still have to make a holder for the A4 OD3.8 sheet)

A great first light Rob
I too think it is a game changer for WL imaging and I am very glad you did the visual test too it is certainly very contrasty compared to the Continuum filter, therefore makes focus much easier and stacking too.

That is a great shot. I should give that filter a try.

Great start with the new filter Rob!
I've done my first recordings with my filter as well! I haven't had time to process and publish yet, but it looks very promising.
Best regards,
Arne

I may end up replacing my 10nm Edmund Optical filter with the 2nm Altair one. This is another awesome image!
