prom of June 7th ,2023 : one of my best with spectro coro

Post by ChrisHalpha2017 »

Hello ,

I was really blessed today as I think I might have caught the best prom in 25 years of observation with the wide slit spectrocopic method ...

here are the results..

Here are with 1800 and 2400 lines to show the difference with 600 lines/mm

Chris

The 600 lines/mm gives the best images with the WIDE SLIT spectroscope because then the image isnt deformed by the Doppler effect and the dispersion where a "point" if the image on the entrance slit doesnt become a line in the spectrum because the dispersion enlarges it .

IMPORTANT : Dont forget that the configuration of the spectroscope plays a very important role in the image geometry : the "classic" config shrinks the image due to anamorphosis. That's why I prefered to now use the Littrow congig where the "shrinking" is minimised.

Fantastic detail Chris. Could a flat frame be used so as to remove the artifacts from the grating/slit?
