Pedro,
Impressive work with the Sol-Ex!! You did very well for a first timer. You will be on this like a flea on a cat very soon doing professional-grade images like you do with all of your other stuff.

Thanks James

I also think it is a good first image (first light). I will have to use a camera with smaller pixels (I used the AS174MM that is not great for this kind of images). It is not easy to tune everything and also focus and align the Sol'Ex to get the most of it. I will try harder next time.

Pedro,
They do appear to be more difficult to use than conventional etalon filters. I would almost certainly have to purchase a good tracking equatorial mount for the use with a Sol-Ex equipped scope. Most of my mounts are non motorized altazimuth, except for the AZGTI which is a motorized alt-az. I struggle with these mounts often when imaging. I do plan to get a tracking equatorial with a Hinode solar guider in the future.

Good luck with your use of the Sol-Ex. I look forward to seeing your results.

James

James

There is a recent Youtube video (in french) concerning the use of the Sol'Ex without any mount. Check it out (you can turn translation on I guess)

Great first light! If I may make a suggestion, could you maybe do a side-by-side comparison of the two Ha results, both mono and same orientation?
I look forward to seeing more.

Kevin
