Sunday Sunshine 3rd March

Post by marktownley »

After an awful Saturday of sleet and snow, Sunday dawned with clear skies and a heavy frost. Seeing was on the poorer side of avarage, and for the closeup shots there was a lot of data captured and virtually all of it thrown away. First off the overview full disks, amd G Band at 60mm f10 with the ZWO183mm...

I quite liked todays Ha, and spent quite a bit of time viewing this visually. Taken with the double stacked 50mm setup.

Next up the CaK, taken 40mm f15 with the zwo183mm

And CaK proms with the same setup, some were quite far out...

Next up 80mm f15 with the 2x cemax and the zwo290mm. I was struggling with the seeing, spicules are soft, and a lot of time taken to get these, I probably should have just imaged 60mm f15 and spent more time imaging in Ha. Oh well, pleased with the results!

Nice to be able to get out, it felt quite spring like!

Hope you like

Mark

Mark,
The CaK proms look really nice. They are all around the disc. I love it!! And it has been quite spring-like here too.

Thanks James! by the way, I tried again for proms with the GBand, going from fast native focal ratio to slow native focal ratio at the filter to no effect. I'll stick with the CaK filter for the proms, it seems to pick them up further away from the disk than the Ha.

Wow these are amazing. It’s so interesting to learn how you make decisions about which kit to use in different conditions.
Can I ask what shadows and highlights settings you typically use in photoshop for h alpha specifically? I asked Stu too but he doesn’t use PS.
I've been lucky as a couple of friends have sent me some stacks to practice processing but I have a mental block with shadows and highlights for h alpha for some reason,
Thanks
Nic

Great session Mark. The CaK proms are excellent, as is everything else. I was not aware you can get proms in G Band. Can you please elaborate ?

Mark,
Undoubtedly Gband is truly a pure photosphere filter. If so proms won’t show at all. But it was worth a try.

Hiya Franco, I have tried a few times now for proms with the G Band to no avail. The prom ring here is taken with my CaK filter.

Great results Mark! I'm particularly impressed with how you manage to pull out the prominences in the CaK images!
