April 8 partial solar eclipse! 2nd post!

Post by DeepSolar64 »

The weather for April 8th was quite cloudy and interfered significantly with my eclipse observations but the seeing was decent. Mid-session the temperature was 74F. I was joined at the scope by my wife and my dad. Despite me seeing this one only as a partial event I really enjoyed it. Here is some more pics from my session.

That one shot of the prom on the bottom that was so bright during totality is fabulous James! Amazing fine detail in that prom. Love the crescents on the wall too.

Thanks and welcomes everyone. Glum, nah. Maybe a bit frustrated with the clouds or concentrating on getting everything right. I enjoyed the event. With the prominence pictures I was trying to imitate the visual appearance of the proms as seen in totality. Not red as in an Ha scope but a unique magenta-pink or at least that was how my eyes saw them in 2017. I did not quite get it here. Proms have strong emission lines in Ha ( red ) and Hb ( blue ). Put them together and you get that wonderful color! The wall did make a good backdrop didn't it! I also liked how the colorized 540nm image turned out. The seeing was actually good during the eclipse.

Lovely images, James. The prom colour does look close to their natural colour. We’ll done.
