Ha and CaK images 17th April 2024
A second day of Sun...yay, but not without some scudding clouds making for a frustrating imaging session, especially making mosaics. The seeing wasn't great for the close views

Stu,
Very nice work. Your CaK and Ha full disc images are great and I think you caught a flare on those two close ups. The colorized close up is splendid. It just looks HOT!!

Re: Ha and CaK images 17th April 2024
Hi Oleg,
I’m getting lazy….
Ha FD is a mosaic taken with a Lunt 60 triple stacked, fitted with a 2.7x Barlow and Basler acA2440-075 um camera.
CaK FD is also a mosaic, taken using a modified Lunt B1800 module (Baader K-line and Omega filter replacing the stock ‘blue’ filters) double stacked with a second ‘yellow’ filter rescued from a B600 Lunt CaK module. The camera was a Basler acA2440-075 um with a 2.5x Powermate. I used a 72mm Altair Lightwave scope stopped down to 43 mm, delivering an f10 light cone to the filter module.
The close views were taken using my 150mm home brew scope based on an iStar optical 150/f10 objective, internal ERF, internal Barlow lens, two 35mm Lunt etalons and a refocusing lens with 2.5x PM, giving an effective focal ratio of about f34. The camera was a Basler acA1920-155 um.
…..it’s a lot to write every time I post some images
Thanks for asking.

Re: Ha and CaK images 17th April 2024
That’s a shame, Mark. So often the case. Sometimes the sky can be a lovely blue from horizon to horizon and then turn nasty just when things are setup ready to roll….marktownley wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 7:55 pm Excellent disks thanks Stu! Stu.
And what do you mean internal Barlow lens?
The internal ‘Barlow’ is actually a Plano/concave lens positioned to collimate the f10 light cone. The optics are simple and not perfect, but good enough. The ‘collimated’ light passes through the two Lunt 35 etalons and is then re-focused using a biconvex lens originally from one of the Lunt 35s telescopes. Over all this gives a scope with an effective focal length of about f13.6. A 2.5x PM in front of the camera takes this to around f34.
Hope this helps.

Super pictures. I see some of them at least were taken with a Basler. What was your capture software (sorry if I missed that)? I was just trying to figure out if Sharpcap was OK with Basler gear now - there seem to be some ups and downs on that with changes to Pylon.

I use Genika Astro for image capture.
FYI, Basler cameras work with SharpCap. I use version 5.2, but I think version 7.5 also works. It’s the Redistributables Pylon Runtime version that’s required, as it contains the driver software needed to operate within SharpCap and others.
