Monster Prom & Activity on the Western Limb | HA High Res | May 2nd 2024
Hi all,
The Western limb is just loaded with prominences, a really big hedge prom and lots of surge proms and some looping going on near all those active regions hugging the limb. Lots of activity should be really great for anyone doing an animation of this area. The loops are incredibly faint but they're there. I had to do a mosaic to capture all of the limb area, which I typically do not like to do in variable seeing conditions, but it seemed to have worked out ok. I included an inverted image only to really show the faint proms as its easier to pick out I think. Otherwise, the typical native B&W and false colored (to match what is seen visually when I view).
Equipment:
Aries Tri-Band D-ERF (1) -> 150mm F8 Doublet -> Baader Red CCD-IR Block Filter (D-ERF 2) -> Air Spaced Etalon 1 -> Baader TZ4 Telecentric -> Air Spaced Etalon 2 -> Blocking Filter -> IMX432 Sensor
Very best,

Hi
Nice to see the details.
I had a poor observing session through haze and a power plug issue again.
Cheers. Andrew.

Stunning Marty. Great you presented several versions. Without doubt that inverted image is the absolute knock out for me. I can never get my head around why some are "negative" to them. As your images show there is much more faint and fine detail available as per the loops.

Gorgeous shots Marty! I'll have to go back over my animation to see if there is a way to bring out the loops.
