AR13664-13668 HDR view of M-class flare

Post by Carbon60 »

I took two images of the large active region group mid flare on May 9th at 13:23-13:24 UTC. One image was exposed normally, the second was under exposed so as not to burn out the bright flaring region. Both images were then deconvoluted, sharpened and aligned (ImPPG) and combined as a single HDR image in PixInsight.

The resulting image shows some details of the process occurring within the flaring region.

Normal exposure:

Under exposure:

HDR combo:

..and in colour:

I would have taken more images, but the gap in the clouds was too small for more than these two images. Maybe next time. :)

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

Very nice work Stu! Are you recording all of this activity on your magnetometer?

Excellent stuff! A great idea and v nicely done. The HDR versions are like some v fine paintings. Even the underexposed one could be one of the old paintings - maybe of valkyries descending

(I wonder how Caravaggio would have used the combination of light and dark if he had ever been given the chance to pain the sun in HA )
