G5 Geomagnetic Storm 10th-11th May 2024

Post by Carbon60 »

Unlike me, my magnetometer didn't sleep through the superb geomagnetic storm we've just experienced. Here are my data covering the entire event (rate of change) and the main event 10th-11th (declination in arbitrary units).

The storm is well and truly over, for now, until the next CME impact, which can be seen in the rate of change chart where things have settled back to a more normal level.

The 1 second cadence chart shows just how rapidly the magnetic environment fluctuated as a result of the influx of charged particles during the height of the storm. Fascinating.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

These are amazing results Stu. I always enjoy seeing your magnetometer results. In a former life as a nurse, I would have called for the emergency resuscitation team if I'd seen this on a monitor! Perhaps it's you and not us that has the right idea: a sound night's sleep whilst the data is collected for you!
