The Culprit - May 11, 2024
Hello to all SC friends: yesterday morning a nice, quiet session one on one with AR3664. I had to document this historic AR. I am starting with Calcium images, still processing Ha. The night before I was up at 3:30-4:00AM trying to see the Aurora. Here it had a very timid showing: I could not see anything naked eye but was able to capture some images with the iPhone. Interesting to see that these new iPhones adjust exposure automatically to the night light and do a fairly good job at it. I am totally thrilled I was able to see the the Northern Lights here in Westport after 30+ years living here !

WoW, nice imaging work Franco. I love your CaH views of the Sun and the high resolution view of AR13664 is great! You do very well with that Quark.
I would have thought the aurora would have been brighter in Connecticut since it was surprisingly bright here in South Carolina and I could see quite a bit of color visually by eye. My skies are quite dark which may have helped me.

Re: The Culprit - May 11, 2024
Thank you James & Petr. Yes, I was surprised too not to see anything visually: if I did not see the lights this time with multiple CMEs hitting, this is not a great place to experience them. Maybe it is the latitude ? I am wondering what exposure time other people used with DSLRs.

Your images are all wonderful Franco. There is a beautifully strong purple theme in your colour palette in CaK and the aurora!

Re: The Culprit - May 11, 2024
Lovely closeups - yes an AR that deserves a one-on-one session and you've done it justice. Although I wouldn't call it The Culprit as that infers it committed some type of crime, whereas what it gave us all was such a gift to be remembered

You are probably right, Vin, it brought us a lot of joy (photographically).
