6 hours 55 min FD timelapse of the Sun in H-Alpha on 13th of May 2024.
Dear friends,
Here's a time-lapse animation created from 697 recordings between 08:13 and 15:08UT on May 13th 2024. Each recording was 20 seconds long with a framerate of 40fps (600 frames) and 10 seconds delay between each recording.
The recordings where obtained using a Coronado SolarMax 60mm/BF15 w/Beloptik ITF, stopped down to 50mm, Baader 35nm H-Alpha and ZWO ASI 178mm. Everything was mounted on a SkyWatcher SolarQuest mount.
The best 100 frames from each recording was stacked in AutoStakkert!4 before they were aligned and sharpened in ImPPG.
The final animation was created in PIPP at 12fps effectively compressing the 6 hours 55 minutes of duration down to just 58 seconds.

Did you try to derotate it?
Also I can only imagine how much disk space that must have needed. I can barely fit more than 2h on my disk before I need to take a break and put everything on my external drive to go on (and that is with a 1-minute cadence compared to your 30s cadence). Any tips on that?

Awesome animation Arne. Is so interesting to watch the full disc animation because it allows you to choose where to watch simultaneous activity which may/may not be linked across the whole sun rather than be restricted to the small areas which are commonly recorded. Hard to word the sentence!

Very cool, Arne. I ought to have a go at full disc animation but I find the Lunt 152, when used with big chip, has an uneven tuning on one side of the image. Also, with the double stack there's no room for reducer. I'd have to try single stac with a reducer.........

I haven't tried to derotate it!
I'm recording directly to fast external SSD's. This makes it possible to swap drives if I run out of diskspace as well as being very practical for moving the recorded data to my desktop computer for processing!
I'm using these 4TB external SSD's from Samsung:

I think smaller scope and shorter fl is more suited for FD's. Makes everything more simple. It's quite easy to do this with Davinci Resolve, it does a great job, even with my not always clean frames. Yours should be straight forward. Let me know if you need any help
Ah, good to know. I'm just concerned about sharing the USB traffic. I'm sometimes dealing with (many) corrupted frames (even when only my camera is plugged in) and I fear this would make it worse...
