Carrying a D-ERF in hand baggage

Hello,

I'm wondering whether to carry some bare bones solar kit on holiday this summer. The Q arises on the D-ERF. Have people carried these in hand baggage and if so what's the best way of protecting them (just packed them with soft clothes?). Or would it be better just to take a UV-IR filter. (It would be being used in a max 4" refractor so technically a D-ERF is not needed I suppose and the Quark would have its own blocking filter in anyway)?

Hiya Vin.

I wouldn't even bother with it in carry on, stick it in your case and it will be surrounded by clothes. It will be fine. I've flown with many scopes / bincoulars in this way before with no issue.

I would put it nicely wrapped into a laptop bag. Not to risk having to check it in with any luggage. We all know how luggage can be handled, i tried once a well padded bottle of pisco sour with a check in bag - never again after that : )

were you more upset about the lost pisco or the ruined other contents? I think I'd regret the pisco - clothes can always be washed! I will probably take the DERF in a carry-on stroller. nicely wrapped in tissue and soft clothes!
