Some extreme details with the AR200/F8.5 - 21.05.
The morning after 8 o'clock is really good seeing and the two hours are worth using. I tried a different combination of etalonss and replaced TV4x with TZ4x and combination B1.6x and TZ4x.
The image is softer but more detailed. It will be a good combination for the AR200.
A few examples are in the attachment. Hope you like them.

Re: Some extreme details with the AR200/F8.5 - 21.05.
I used a 50mm pressure Lunt from an LS80 and a Quark combo. Lunt does not have collimating lenses. I recently built a 200mm telescope for a friend and used the same combination of etalons. It works better than the tilting LS40.

Re: Some extreme details with the AR200/F8.5 - 21.05.
Thank you all.
It was really two exceptional days when the image on the monitor stood like nails and it was possible to focus well. The temperating of the AR200 is not very long, and when the wind is not strong, the images are very detailed. The Chinese achromat tuned to H-a by the Czech optician does a great job. Unfortunately, my back won't allow me to work with the ISTAR 225 right now. The bent AR200 is still usable for me for now. I will have to say goodbye to ISTAR. Age catches up with everyone.

The blue tube leads to the electronic pressure regulator. The pressure is controlled remotely.
Etalon naturally has two plane-parallel glasses instead of collimating lenses.

Looking at these again, I just can’t get over the detail within the umbrae.
Can I ask what are the typical exposure times you are using with this setup? Much gain?
Again, thank you for sharing.

Re: Some extreme details with the AR200/F8.5 - 21.05.
The Quark that was used in this setup has 2x more attenuation in H-a than my other Quark in the LS40 setup, so the exposure length was 15-18ms and the gain around 200. I didn't want to ruin my carefully tuned setup with the LS40 for testing, but next time i will do it because the results could be even better with shorter exposure and lower gain.

Re: Some extreme details with the AR200/F8.5 - 21.05.
I won't start a new thread for this. I tried another Quark but the weather was against it. Seeing was an order of magnitude worse than yesterday and even when I got down to half the shutter speed and lower gain, the haze destroyed most of the detail. So just five photos for example.

I don't know, James, but these photos aren't exactly ideal examples of close-up photography. The basis is good optics with a large aperture, but above all good seeing. If it isn't, no magic will help. A comparison with the images from yesterday clearly proves this.

Re: Some extreme details with the AR200/F8.5 - 21.05.
Peter, nice images! I took a closer look at your images from these two days. And in both cases the resolution limiting factor was not the seeing, but aperture size. Lucky imaging and post processing do a great job to minimize the seeing destructive factor and the limiting factor is diffraction on an aperture. One way or another, earlier or later one will catch a good seeing. But this is not possible with diffraction. Only aperture diameter increasing can help. Refactors or newtonians are not the only telescopes around. A larger SCT with front mounted ERF will easily do the job. If a larger refractors than 200mm are not for you due to age, then C11 with optimized imaging train can do the job with easy.pupak wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 12:41 pm I don't know, James, but these photos aren't exactly ideal examples of close-up photography. Re: Some extreme details with the AR200/F8.5 - 21.05.
Thanks for the qualified opinion, Valery, but I have no ambitions to become a professional sun photographer.
It is true that the C11 with full DERF would produce better photos for me about 2 times a year, but if I could handle ISTAR 228, I think it wouldn't be much worse. I make do with what I have and it doesn't bother me at all that someone else takes a better photo. It's my hobby.

Your place allows you to image the sun at a high resolution far more often than 2 times a year. You are the most frequent poster here with high res. pictures with 6" to 10" apertures. And, I believe you can do it even more frequent if to not miss clear mornings. Mild climate, not too hot, not too cold, grassy lowns = a lot of seeing early to mid morning.pupak wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2024 7:03 am Thanks for the qualified opinion, Valery, but I have no ambitions to become a professional sun photographer.

C11 is the best telescope in factor telescope per dollar divide on it's weight and length. EQ-6 is enough for this telescope. 9" refractor is far less portable.

I don't know, Valery. I had an 8" Triband and used it twice a year. Long refractors are much more resistant to poor seeing than catadiopric systems. Also, I doubt I could get the money for a 300mm DERF and C11. That's way beyond my limits. Good luck in that a person is satisfied with what he has and does not deal with what he cannot have.
