No problems, just a wish

Post by swisswalter »

Hi Stephen

you know I love and hate the little green monsters ;-)

why can't we manage that the little green monsters are recording just what each visitor has looked at and what not. It would make life so much easier and we would reach much more clicks and answers. Is it a technical issue or just a question of money or both :?

Personally I'm loosing threads where I would have liked to give my comments to it (congratulatons) and I'm loosing threads where I have missed good informations.

I suggest, that we start a poll about that issue

Walter,

The only control of the new post notifiers is a button in the software control panel that says "On" or "Off". I don't have any other control of them in any way. I cant reset them, I cant specify how they act and I cant change anything about how they look in this software.

Im not sure how you access the forum but I have a couple of suggestions.

1) Whenever I log in, I go directly to "Recent Topics". This shows me ONLY the topics that have been started or replied to since the last time I logged in to the forum. I don't even notice the green monsters and dont use them.

2) I can set your profile to a state in which you will receive all posts of any kind that come to the forum via email, like I do as the administrator, if you want. You would receive anything that anyone puts on the forum directly to your email address like you do now if you are subscribed to the topic.

Its not a matter of money or anything. Its just the way the forum software works. Even if I had enough money to buy a new forum software package, which we do as a group, I cant find anyone that knows how to transfer the existing messages and usernames into the new package so we are sort of stuck with what we have. I think it works pretty well though and I am not to a point where I want to try and replace the software yet.

Hi Stephen

thank you very much for your answer and the details.

Receiving all and any posts is no alternative to me.

So I have to get used to start strictly and only with the recent posts. I didn't today

You know it is not easy to change the habbits of an old men ;-)

thanks again
